1. | World Autism Awareness day – 2nd April, 2015 | New Horizons Health and Research Foundation in collaboration with New Horizons Child Development Centre, Mumbai organized a campaign to spread awareness about Autism, in the event of World Autism Awareness Day (2nd April, 2015). This was a first-of-its-kind exercise at a large scale, conducted by any NGO around Autism in Mumbai. The event was conducted at 5 different shopping complexes (Malls), closer to NHCDC centres in Mumbai. The objective of event was to spread awareness about Autism among parents and general public, clarify myths from facts and thus enlarge the scope of identification, diagnosis and prognosis. Autism is a neuro-developmental disorder characterized by difficulties in speech, behaviour, emotional expression and hyperactive responses. | ![]() |
2. | Srujan Program – 2nd August, 2015 | Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan has started an initiative called ‘Srujan’ for underprivileged children. On every first Sunday of the month Pratisthan organizes workshops for underprivileged children to help them explore their hidden talent and create sensitive and good civilian out of these children. The workshops are being arranged since the past 12 years for these children. ‘Srujan’ is led by honble MP Supriya Sule. The advisory board consists of Shri Duglas John and Shri Shubhanand Jog. On 2nd August, 2015 YCP in collaboration with New Horizons Health and Research Foundation organized a Medical Camp for these children. Ms. Deepti Kanade Modak, In-charge of New Horizons Health and Research Foundation gave a short talk to the children on health, hygiene and sanitization. A short documentary on ways to maintain hygiene and sanitization was shown to the children. The children were encouraged to spread awareness about the same in their respective localities. In order to create a visual impact, charts on hygiene, nutrition and good and bad behavior were displayed; children were encouraged to read about them in groups. Health screening was conducted by a team of pediatric doctors from various hospitals. The team consisted of Dr. Bansari Bhoite and Dr Elyska deSa from Dalwai Nursing home, Dr Nikita Shah from Sion Hospital, Dr. Vasudha Rao from KEM hospital, Dr. Shams Alam from INSH Asvini Hospital, Dr. Kamran Dalwai from D.Y. Patil Hospital and Dr. Roshani Desai with her team of Pediatric Ophthalmologist from KEM Hospital. 90 children registered for the event. There were 37 girls and 53 boys who underwent general medical screening and ophthalmic evaluation. Children were referred for further testing to the nearest government hospital of their locality with concerns of Academic Difficulty, Tuberculosis, Skin infection, ENT and ophthalmic concerns. Few children were referred with neurological concerns. Every child was given vitamin D3 and multi vitamin supplements. Hon’ble MP Supriya Sule and Mr. Anant Talaulicar, MD Cummins India pvt ltd., graced the occasion by their presence. They interacted with the children and acknowledged the team for their hard work. | ![]() |
3. | World Cerebral Palsy Day – 4th October, 2015 | Indian Academy of Cerebral Palsy (IACP), Indian Academy of Pediatrics-Childhood Disability Group (IAP-CDG) and New Horizons Health and Research Foundation (NHHRF) celebrated World Cerebral Palsy Day this year, at Oberoi mall in Goregaon. This year’s event focused on increasing public awareness on barriers faced by individuals with CP in accessing services; the specific needs and priorities of individuals with CP and their inclusion in mainstream life. About 80 participants (Children along with their teachers), from two mainstream schools: the Dalwai Foundation’s Goregaon English School and Yashodham High School, participated in canvas painting, hand-in-hand with children and adults having Cerebral Palsy. Young minds creatively depicted solutions unique to our Indian scenarios on how to improve accessibility for individuals with CP, on canvas. Children mingled like old friends while expressing their thoughts through pictures! Everyone enjoyed a wonderful “Art session” with loads of sketching, coloring and camaraderie! The paintings had wonderful messages to share! Making this event even more memorable were the volunteers who made tattoos for the children, who thoroughly enjoyed the experience! | ![]() |
4 | Loud and Clear – Audiology CME – 25th October, 2015 | A case-based CME titled, “Loud and Clear” was conducted by New Horizons Health and Research Foundation; Indian Academy of Pediatrics, Mumbai; Indian Academy of Pediatrics – Childhood Disability Group and Goregaon Pediatric Forum; for 35 delegates (pediatricians, ENT consultants, Audiologists, speech therapists, developmental therapists, psychologists and educators working with special needs children) on 25th October, 2015 at the New Horizons Child Development Centre, Goregaon West, Mumbai. The CME focused on speech and hearing disorders seen among children and adults. A series of eminent speakers in the field shared their knowledge and experience on clinical approach, importance of early screening, different types of investigation tools, intervention and management process. Learning was optimized by active participation of delegates and speakers, discussing queries and personal experiences in clinical practice. |

‘ World Cerebral Palsy Day ’

Synopsis: Psycho Education about working with children with Cerebral Palsy with special emphasis on several Government and Non-Government Organizations working towards welfare of child development and disability. Children were engaged in activities like singing, dance and painting.


‘ Diwali Celebration- Art Exhibition-cum-Sale ’

Synopsis: Keeping in mind the Individualized Therapy goals, children across 5 centre made articles like Greeting cards, Envelopes, Photo Frame, Wall Hangings, Lamps, etc. with the help of their respective Developmental Therapists. The items were then sealed and marked for the Art Exhibition Cum Sale. Dignitaries, Parents and well-wishers were invited for the exhibition and they appreciated our children’s efforts by purchasing items at the exhibition. Sale money was used to purchase gift items for all children at NHCDC across 5 centre’s.
